Off to Phokara then trek

Students are in good spirits. Very nice tour of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pashupatinath_Temple yesterday and a Leprosy clinic. Group studied AMS yesterday. We are having breakfast and boarding our minibus for a ~6 hr ride to Phokara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokhara Hope to start trek tomorrow to Annapurna Base Camp http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annapurna.  All is well. Everyone says ‘Namaste’.

After consultations with students, Dorjee, and Tandra we have decided to do the Annapurna Base Camp Trek instead of Gokyo. This will involve no air flights and a lesser chance of altitude sickness. It offers less scenery/views (none of Evererst) than the Gokyo trek and less interactions with health facilities but overall will be safer

Students arrived yesterday in good shape. Nice dinner with traditional foods and dancing. Also an excellent lecture at the top travel clinic on AMS and travel health issues by Dr. Ravi. Back at hotel by 9pm with many tired students. Monsoon rains are very bad. Sad news is a crash at Lukla airport this morning
